Creative Ways to Prepare Smoked Ham

Ham is one food item many of us love, but seldom get to enjoy, primarily because we think of it as something that should only be prepared for special occasions like Christmas and maybe also because we think there’s only one way to prepare ham. Nothing could be further from the truth. You can actually enjoy your favorite smoked ham, pear-shaped ham, or any variant of ham, even without an occasion, and there is a wide variety of ways for you to prepare them.

Ham, Broccoli, and Rice Dinner

Filipinos love fried rice. Well, here’s a new way to prepare this all-time favorite! Simply chop up one medium-sized onion, one broccoli floret, and your pear-shaped ham. Melt two teaspoons of butter in a skillet over medium heat, add the onion and a cup of rice, and then stir for about two minutes. Country-Style

Stir in 1 2/3 cups of water and salt and seasoning to taste, wait for the water to boil, and then reduce the heat to low. Cover the mixture and cook for ten minutes, stir in the broccoli and ham, cover and cook for another ten minutes, stirring occasionally. Voila! You have a delicious dinner.

Ham Cake-ettes

You can prepare ham as a pancake-croquette combo to enjoy for breakfast. Just chop your ham and some green onions, mash some potatoes, and then combine these with one egg, a tablespoon of mustard, a teaspoon of salt, a teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 ½ cups of bread crumbs. Scoop up 1/3 cup of the mixture and then form a patty with it. Repeat with the rest of the mixture and then fry the patties in vegetable oil. Enjoy!

Creamy Chicken and Ham Bake

This is a very simple and easy-to-make dish you can prepare within ten minutes. What to do? Prepare your smoked ham, a can of condensed cream-of-chicken soup, half a cup of light sour cream, a pound of chicken breast tenders, and a teaspoon of chopped parsley. Heat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit, mix the soup and sour cream in a small bowl, and arrange the chicken in one layer in a baking dish. Top the chicken with ham and then spoon the soup mixture evenly on top. Bake the mixture for an hour and then top with parsley.

Baked Brunch Omelet

Perhaps the best part about this dish is that you can prepare it in advance, say, the night before and then just bake it in the morning so you can serve it fresh from the oven!

You’ll need a cup of cubed ham, a loaf of bread (cubed), 8 eggs, 2 cups of milk, 1 ½ lbs of shredded Cheddar cheese, a pinch of salt, a dash of hot pepper sauce, and ¼ cup chopped green onions. Pre-heat your oven; the temperature setting should be set to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Once you’ve done this, lightly oil a 9×13-inch baking pan. Arrange 50% of the bread cubes on the pan, top with half of the ham and half of the cheese, and then repeat. In a bowl, beat together the eggs, salt, milk, green onions, and hot sauce. Pour the mixture into the pan and then bake bain-marie style for an hour.

Ham Tetrazzini

This dish sounds fancy, but it’s really very easy to prepare. Just cook and drain six ounces of spaghetti, melt a tablespoon of butter in a saucepan over medium heat, and stir in two tablespoons of chopped onion for five minutes. Stir in a can of condensed cream-of-mushroom soup, half a cup of water, and shredded cheese.

When the cheese has melted, stir in your ham (diced), the spaghetti, and two tablespoons of chopped parsley. Keep cooking until the ingredients are well-combined and the mixture heated through, and then serve hot. Just 30 minutes and you have a dish to enjoy for lunch or dinner with the family!
